No Baby Overlooked
BRIEF
Research shows that healthcare inequity begins at birth. To address this, the NHS Race and Health Observatory has commissioned us to develop a neonatal image library showing what common skin conditions look like on Black and Brown skin.
Clinicians and medical students have long reported that they can't fully serve their communities because the resources available to them don't reflect all of their patients. Our job here isn't simply to collect images — it's to co-create a resource with clinicians and the communities disproportionately affected by healthcare inequity, in a way that is clinically robust and avoids unintended harm.
APPROACH
Our work includes:
Convening senior clinical stakeholders to deliver a clinically informed, usable resource
Convening community leaders and influencers to ensure a co-created, culturally fluent approach
Surveying communities through focus groups
Recruiting DBS-checked, culturally fluent stakeholders to capture content
An immersion and exploratory phase, ensuring we work from evidence rather than assumption, and co-create from the outset
Ongoing strategic communications, reputation management, media monitoring and stakeholder support as NHS RHO navigates its institutional history
