New event: imPATIENTly Waiting
This week, we launched imPATIENTly Waiting, our new event series bringing together healthcare communicators, charities, brands and partners to tackle some of healthcare's biggest challenges.
Our first event focused on health equity and the barriers that continue to drive unequal health outcomes. Hosted by Roisín Dervish-O'Kane, with insights from Afua Basoah, Rini Jones and Sejal Sachdev, the discussion was thoughtful, challenging and, above all, optimistic about what we can achieve when we work together.
Some of our biggest takeaways included:
The NHS spends £2 billion a year on maternity claims. Culturally congruent care isn't a nice-to-have, it's a cost problem.
Co-production means working in partnership with patients and communities to build equitable services, not just consulting them after the decisions are made.
You can't understand today's health inequities without drawing the line back to historical harm, like how hypertension research on colonised populations still shapes clinical guidance now.
Representation in leadership changes whether patients believe a service is legitimate.
Accountability without consequence isn't accountability. There has to be a real cost to malpractice and inaction.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to such an inspiring conversation.
This is just the beginning for imPATIENTly Waiting, and we can't wait to continue the conversation. If you'd like to join us at the next event, email impatientlywaiting@coldr.world.
